The Secret to Productivity

“And he came to Nazareth… and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day.”

— Luke 4:16

Why is it that some people seem to be more productive than others? Why do certain individuals find consistent success in their life, ministry, work, or anything they set their hand to? We often assume the answer must be talent… but it usually isn’t. Or maybe they’re just extremely motivated—more motivated than even motivated people. But that’s not it either.

Sure, talent may play a small part. A healthy inward drive certainly helps. But those aren’t the ingredients that make someone genuinely effective.

There’s something far more practical—yet far more powerful.

Success Is Scheduled

The most productive people aren’t the smartest or the most naturally gifted. They are the ones who prioritize, schedule, and then obey the schedule—not for a day, or a week, but consistently, day after day.

Success doesn’t drift into someone’s life.
Success is planned, prioritized, and put on paper.

That might not sound glamorous. But it is transformational.

Christ Modeled a Disciplined, Scheduled Life

Jesus Himself lived this way. While He may not have carried around a planner, He practiced intentional routines and holy habits.

Scripture repeatedly uses phrases like:

  • “as his custom was”

  • “he rose up early”

  • “he departed into a solitary place, and prayed”

These weren’t random moments. These were patterns.

Jesus kept rhythms.
He demonstrated discipline.
He modeled a life of purpose, structure, and intentional action.

If Christ is our example—and He is—then we should follow Him here as well.

Schedule with Purpose. Live with Purpose.

Want to change your life?
Want to be more productive, more consistent, more fruitful?

Schedule your priorities.
Then live by that schedule.

Not occasionally, but daily.
Not emotionally, but intentionally.
Not when it’s convenient, but when it’s right.

Let your calendar reflect your calling.

I challenge you: schedule your life on purpose. And then live your life on purpose.
